“As parents, we must advocate and convince lawmakers for additional funding for reading, because all children should be able to receive the necessary resources to succeed in school”
– Meagan DeLeon, Stand for Children Massachusetts Member & Every Child Reads Literacy Reader

The Problem
Learning to read is an essential part of our children’s education and the first step to academic success. In the U.S. 68% of fourth graders do not read at a proficient level. Students who don’t read proficiently by 3rd grade are 4 times likelier to drop out of school than their peers. Our children are struggling with literacy. We have an opportunity to change this and help to better position our students for success.
Our Solution
At Stand for Children, we are committed to partnering with parents and communities to ensure that children have the resources and guidance to become strong readers and writers. We are committed to building strong partnerships among parents, teachers, and schools through various programs and initiatives aimed at taking an active role in student’s early literacy efforts. Our programs take place at the local level and focus on: effective literacy instruction, early identification of struggling literacy learners, summer reading programs, family literacy programs, and many others.
